Manchester United has set a Christmas deadline for Paul Pogba to sign a new contract.

The midfielder, who is 28 years old, has less than a year left on his present deal and will be available for negotiations with clubs in January.

United wants the problem to be settled as soon as possible in order to avoid any additional disruption that could detract from a prospective title bid.

According to The Sun, club officials have been in contact with agent Mino Raiola on a regular basis in an attempt to reach an agreement.

A new contract's conditions are expected to reach £400,000 per week, a significant increase over his existing disclosed earnings.

Pogba has been linked with a move away from United for some time, but there is increasing speculation that he will stay.

Old Trafford bosses are said to be growing more confident that they will be able to maintain Pogba in the long run.

They are aware of strong interest in the Frenchman, particularly from PSG, who explored a summer move.

Real Madrid is also interested in the 28-year-old, though it is unclear whether they will be able to afford to buy both Pogba and Kylian Mbappe.

Pogba has been in superb form for United since returning from the European Championships.

The midfielder has appeared in all seven of the club's Premier League games, having an impact in each of them.

He's already tallied seven assists this season, surpassing his total from the previous campaign

The former Juventus player wants to win, and United's recent transfers have shown him that they mean business.

Despite a strong start to the season, Solskjaer's team has sunk in recent weeks.

The 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday was the second game in a row in which they have dropped points in the Premier League.

Solskjaer took a chance by resting Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo, but it backfired as United were held at Old Trafford.
